Security guard gets 18 months’ jail for possessing videos related to terrorist group

A 49-year-old security guard was sentenced to 18 months’ jail for possessing 13 videos related to terrorist group in February this year.

High Court judge Datuk Azman Abdullah meted out the sentence against Mohd Zaki Ibrahim after he pleaded guilty to the offence today.

Azman in his judgment said the accused had committed a serious offence which could influence others if if it had not been observed by the authority.

Azman ordered the jail term to begin from the date of arrest on Feb 27.

Zaki was charged with possessing 12 videos relating to Islamic State – IS and one video relating to Jund Al-Aqsa in his mobile phone.

He committed the offence at a security post near Tenaga Nasional Berhad – TNB substation, Jalan Permas 3/4, Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, Masai, in Johor at 12.30pm on Feb 27.

The accused who was unrepresented pleaded for leniency saying he suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure, and Parkinson’s disease.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor pressed for a deterrent sentence stating that the case involved public interest.

Meanwhile, two friends pleaded not guilty for attempting to carry out acts of terror in Johor between December and January this year.

Nik Muhamad Zaini Nik Hassan, 37, and Ismadi Md Noor @ Ismail, 30, allegedly committed the offence at Jalan Kemboja, Kampung Dato’ Sulaiman Menteri, between Dec 11 and Jan 31.
