PUTRAJAYA – The President of The Senate, Parliament of Malaysia, Senator Tan Sri Dato’ Sri SA. Vigneswaran will lead the Malaysian delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which will be held in London, the United Kingdom from 18 to 20 April 2018.
The President of The Senate will be accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Datin Sri Susita Periasamy and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
CHOGM which is held biennially, is an important platform for the Commonwealth Heads of Government to meet and discuss global and Commonwealth issues as well as to decide on collective policies and initiatives.
This year’s theme Towards A Common Future sets the momentum for discourse on how the Commonwealth can address global challenges and work to create a better future for all its citizens under the four areas of action, namely fairness, prosperity, sustainability and security.
These areas correspond to the overarching global agenda for the Sustainable Development Goals.
Subsequent to this, the Heads of Government will deliberate and adopt four outcome documents namely; Declaration on the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda for Trade and Investment; Commonwealth Blue Charter; Revised Guidelines on Election Observation in Member Countries; and Commonwealth Cyber Declaration.
A CHOGM 2018 Communique and a Leaders’ Statement, which states the Commonwealth’s positions on issues discussed and agreements reached, will also be issued at the end of the meeting.
CHOGM 2018 is preceded by the Pre-CHOGM Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting.
